There’s nowhere else quite like Luxor.
Built on the 4,000-year old site of Egypt’s one-time capital of Thebes, it’s stacked with the building works of the great Pharaohs, making it one serious open-air museum. With the spectacular Valley of the Kings, whose limestone hills are peppered with 62 hand-carved tombs.
Crane your neck at the massive twin statues of the Colossi of Memnon that guard the valley. And go deep into the most famous tomb of all – that of the boy king Tutankhamen.
Nearby you’ll find another Pharaonic powerhouse – the Temple of Queen Hatsheput. With its symmetrical colonnades, it looks as if it was built only yesterday.
